It Takes a Village

Private Solo Exhibition 2019

It Takes A Village explores multidimensional aspects of individual and collective journeys through narrative art. This theme reflects the solidarity of inner and outer words and the depth, joy, pain, mystery, playfulness, and beauty they contain. We are never truly alone. We are held by the earth, nature, connection, friends, family, community, ancestors, culture, and the endless depths of the creative experience. Through uncovering conscious and unconscious truths and celebrating uniqueness, knowing, persistence, movement and wonder, we realise life is completely individual and yet entirely shared within each and every one of us. When inner and outer words commingle, there is the realization that “What you see is also in you”; alchemical magic occurs, and transformation and growth take flight.

All proceeds of large paintings were donated to the ‘Friends of HEAL’ Foundation that provides art therapy to young refugees in the Brisbane community. Everyone needs the support of ‘a village’ to thrive, regardless of who they are or where they come from. Donating to this foundation supports children and young adults in their process of integrating and embracing their new beginning in the Brisbane community.
